Exercise and Human Design
Let’s discuss…
To be clear, this is a potentially tricky matter for anyone to discuss from a Human Design perspective because we are each designed differently but; it’s really important to understand how you fit into this puzzle.
The easiest way to begin this discussion is by chunking us into two groups – the Sacrals and the Non-Sacrals.
The Sacrals – Generators and Manifesting Generators
Before the age of technology and automation, we had to walk (or maybe ride a horse) to wherever we needed to go.
We had to procure our food – hunt for it, dig for it, tend to it, feed it, create a garden to grow and harvest it.
We had to build a fire to cook some of that food with after we’d gathered the fuel for said fire.
You’ve heard this all before but it’s true that as generators of a great deal of momentum every single day of our lives, we have to come up with other ways of using up that incredible store of energy that is the Defined Sacral Motor.
If you are already fit, then you probably won’t have the problem of not using up your Sacral stores. That kind of happens naturally in the act of staying fit!
When you are unfit, you are more likely to miss or ignore those opportunities to respond that are being presented to you.
I see it often. Generator types who are fit and following their S & A to get fit i.e. doing the right type and amount of exercise for them according to their Sacral; are in general enjoying more satisfaction from life and less frustration, stuckness and lack.
(I do want to acknowledge exceptions where people are genuinely using up their energy each day without having a fitness/movement practice as say in the case of a pregnant or nursing mother. Or indeed when your Sacral, for it’s own reasons, absolutely and honestly says “Uh uh” to getting fit – this is rare and you do need to be sure it’s your Sacral talking and not your mind)
A secondary advantage is that when your Sacral energy is healthily depleted for the day, it’s much easier to get to sleep and to stay asleep.(Some of you may want to promote this to the primary advantage given the epidemic of sleep issues the collective seems to be dealing with in the last few years!)
It’s not uncommon for Generator types to be able to pin point their most successful, abundant times as those when they were most physically fit.
If you are a Generator type, you can easily find out if using up your energy more efficiently or upping your fitness is something you need to work on.
Go on.
Ask you Sacral.

The Non Sacrals – Projectors, Manifestors & Reflectors
If you have an Undefined Sacral, then you are not designed to wear out your Sacral – quite the opposite in fact.
As a “Non Sacral being” you don’t have access to consistent, reliable energy. All those automations and technologies that I referred to earlier are a Godsend for you. Use them without guilt or regret.
I don’t want to suggest that you cannot exercise or get fit, but if you try to exert yourself to any degree without following your particular strategy and authority you may find it does you no good – quite the opposite in fact.

When you understand your Reflector Lunar Cycle, you can use this knowledge to plan your exercise routine if you feel you need one.
Monitor your energy, keep doing it while it feels good. Stop when it doesn’t.

Other factors to consider
For example, the gates 34, 46 & 29 in varying combinations and as hanging gates or parts of channels can have a bearing on how much of a need you have to move your body – mentally and physically. As well there are many other variables that may come into play, the details of which become obvious in a more detailed reading of your chart.
Please remember though, it’s most important, no matter what your type, to use your Strategy and Authority to determine how to use your energy. Everything else will simply fall into place for you if you do this.
