Long gone are the days when Timothy Nelson was simply a precocious talent; the guy has moved into an entirely different echelon. He sounds like Stevie Wonder smoking gospel Beatles-crack. He thinks big, and he gets results. It’d be a bit of a stretch to call him a pop rock’n’roll genius this early in his career, but the guy demonstrates vision and talent beyond the ken of most of his peers.” – Xpress Magazine
Another listener review says this song is “one part Bee Gees, one part ‘Come on Eileen'”. Well that can’t be all bad now can it?
Mary Lou is a relatively new track - at least it is as of today! Actually it was released almost a year ago back in May 2013 by Timothy Nelson and the Infidels, a band out of Perth Western Australia. Much more about them I can’t tell you. Information is thin on the ground. They have a Facebook page and that’s pretty much it in the form of self promotion. The photo below is lifted from their Facebook page - I hope they don’t mind. It was taken at the Nannup Music Festival in WA. Gee I wish I’d been there. They look like they’re having the best fun!
What I can tell you is that Mary Lou is totally infectious. It’s got a great strong beat, gorgeous strings and it makes you feel happy - The subject matter may not be that uplifting - Well Mary Lou is giving this poor guy, who, by the way sounds like he has some other minor issues that Mary Lou is taking advantage of, a really hard time and just won’t let him out of her grasp. But even though blood and sweat goes into lyric writing, the tune is what hooks me every time and this is a terrific tune.
