Loving Cup - Some Stones
So it’s time to work out who’s side you’re on. I’m assuming you are on a side….
The only thing is, I love both sides. I love the Beatles, I really do!….but I think I really love the Rolling Stones. It’s the dirtiness; the edginess that you just don’t get it with…… well, with the other side. I guess they were using different substances to the Beatles. I’m still learning about them mind. And there is a lot to learn. I’m talking specifically here about their music, not the boys themselves. Not about what they got up to or that they’re still kicking around the world performing sold out concerts when most folk of their age and means are travelling around the world on one of those 10 story 6 star floating cities that stops every few days to unload those who have expired on the journey!
Its my job to pick one Rolling Stones track - at least for this week… I have a particular fondness for Emotional Rescue only because it reminds me of one of my very best friends at some party long ago pouting around mouthing the words and flapping her arms - moving like Jagger in fact. It’s one of those memories that just doesn’t fade.
But I’m taking this weeks music fave from what is arguably the Rolling Stones best album. - it’s all arguable isn’t it! However to back up my bold statement I’ll quote the quotable Wikipedia - ”In 2003, the album was ranked 7th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.”. So there! Seriously, I could have chosen plenty of tracks to play here including the magnificent bluesy Casino Boogy, Tumbling Dice, Torn and Frayed, or the gorgeous and Beatles like (now that could start and argument couldn’t it!) Let it loose. I could keep going but you get the picture. Have a listen to the album and see what I mean.
Loving Cup is one of those wonderful melodic anthems that really should be more known than it is in my humble opinion! Have a listen and let me know what you think. Just by the way, and I didn’t know this until I started researching for this post, Jack White, featured in an earlier music faves post, performed this track live with the Stones in 2006. Ok; too much information.
