About

IMAG0269I’m Ros and I’m making it my mission to destroy some of the myths surrounding our health and what it takes to experience true wellness; to be able to wake up in the morning feeling like you’re able to do what ever you want, and actually wanting to do it! I want to help you learn to listen to your body. Our bodies are amazing and will give us feedback, often very quickly, about what we put into them and how we treat them. It’s just a matter of listening.

I was lucky enough to be born into a wonderful family with parents who were loaded with common sense and cared deeply about the health and well being of their kids. We were surrounded with real food, vegie gardens, meals cooked from scratch and lots of the outside!

At age 17 I moved to the big smoke and had to fend for myself. I now know I got some things right and some things really wrong but I guess that’s life and all that experience adds up to me now! After years of corporate life, the right guy turned up and we decided to try and start a family. Always enjoying what I thought was terrific health, I wasn’t anticipating any issues with conceiving, but had started to notice a few minor “issues” creeping into my life - nothing I thought, that I should worry about.

Shock horror! I discovered that the silver fillings in my mouth, most of which had been there since my teens, were causing all sorts of issues with my health, fertility and ability to carry a baby. At first I didn’t want to believe the amalgams were the cause. I thought it was just the conspiracy theorists out to make a noise. Finally I took a breath, looked at the facts, and realised I had better do something about them or I wouldn’t be having any babies let alone living a long and healthy life.

I was lucky enough to find a wonderful holistic dentist who through testing, discovered that I had extremely high levels of mercury in my body. She safely removed and replaced my 11 amalgams and got me on a pretty intense detoxification program. Knowing what I know now in my detoxified state, I believe I was on a fast train to Multiple Sclerosis because of some of the symptoms I was starting to suffer!

During this time, I discovered my true passion and went on to study Nutritional Medicine until the birth of my daughter 6 years ago. When I finally did get pregnant, I tried very hard to do everything to give my baby the best start in life by looking after my diet and my body. I can say now that she is beautiful, healthy, happy and really smart - maybe too smart!

A while back on facebook there was a thing doing the rounds asking you to write 25 random things about yourself. Here’s some of mine with a few edits - apologies to my fb friends who may be already acquainted with this list!

  • I wanted to be a wine maker from the time I was 11 years old until I realised at the end of year 11 that chemistry was not my strong suit.
  • Unlike my youngest brother, I love gardening. Or more correctly, I love the satisfaction that having a productive garden brings. The act of gardening is a fairly pleasant means to an end.
  • Like my youngest brother, I love good food, good wine and good coffee. I also like tea but I can take or leave squash.
  • I love the rain. I always have even when it wasn’t fashionable
  • My favourite Rose is Dainty Bess, a rare single musk pink with Raspberry coloured stamens. I have one and it’s very special – a gift from my parents.
  • I believe that what we put into and on our bodies pretty much determines our life expectancy barring getting in the way of buses; and that petroleum based products, pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers and electromagnetic radiation from power lines and techy products will one day be proven to be the cause of many of our modern day ailments.
  • I despise artificial sweeteners! They taste awful and they are really really bad for you!
  • I despise the concept and existence of genetically modified food. Don’t get me started…..
  • I believe that cooking is a lot about confidence and only a little about skill
  • My favourite foods are lobster, freshly shucked oysters in their brine, good bacon, quality chocolate (the better, the better!), fresh picked roasted hazelnuts, the freshest lightest sponge with cream and passionfruit icing (sadly can’t remember the last time I had some but the memory lingers!)
  • I love good wine. I can’t be bothered with average wine and so I don’t drink a lot!
  • My family are wonderful. We don’t live in each other’s pockets but are there in a flash for each other if ever one of us is in need.
  • I have the most amazing friends too! Always there for me and we have shared an amazing journey from school till now - forgive me but I’ve only bothered with the best! You most likely know who I’m talking about but if you’re thinking am I one?….you are!
  • My partner in life (hate the term!) likes to keep a low profile. You won’t hear about him much but he’s always here in the background supporting and encouraging.
  • I’ve found my natural groove and I want to help you to too!

Love
