Freehand Organic Preservative Free Semillon 2013
RRP around $24.00
Semillon can make a fabulous white wine and one that we usually do really well here in Australia. It’s an old variety here and most of the semillon you find will come from either the Hunter Valley in New South Wales or in South Australia’s Barossa Valley. This one comes from The Great Southern region of Western Australia where this variety clearly does well too. You can pronounce it as the French do – Sem-ee-yhon or if you prefer, Sem-il-on is quite acceptable here in Australia.
I get a fresh herbaceousness and distinct aromas of kaffir lime and lemongrass
A sweet lemony flavour with apples and pears come through on the palate.
There’s nothing dry about this wine even though it’s doesn’t have a sweet finish. Its mouth filling and juicy. It’s delicious!
How about a big plate of natural oysters? This would be perfection for me.
Not an oyster fan? (You should be, they’re full of zinc and magnesium!) Ok then, what about a not too spicy coconutty Thai chicken curry. Be gentle with the chilies and generous with the other aromatics! This wine can take it!
Will it age?
No. Don’t do it! Just drink it now!
